The New Year has really started on a celestial high for one Sheffield Hotel which has been awarded four star accreditation by ‘Quality in Tourism’ and ‘Visit Britain’.
The Rutland Hotel, located on Glossop Road on the outskirts of the city, has been under its current ownership for just over eight years and has undergone a radical transformation during that time. The result is a contemporary and stylish hotel, perfect for the twenty first century, whilst still embracing its Victorian heritage returning a Sheffield landmark to its rightful position as a leading hotel.
“We were absolutely thrilled to be awarded four stars and feel proud that all our hard work and determination to make The Rutland a superb and stylish hotel once again has been recognised,” commented Katey Dent sales manager The Rutland Hotel. “The feedback that we received was extremely pleasing and the whole team are praised for playing their part in this fantastic achievement. The hotel has been completely re-modeled since current owners - director Craig Dowie and his business partners The Ludlam family trading as Claypenny Hotels - bought the ungraded hotel in 2002 and it has been transformed from a dilapidated and run down business to a stunning and successful one with four stars shining brightly above the door!”
The hotel, which is located in the leafy district of Broomhill - just one mile from the vibrant and cosmopolitan centre of Sheffield – provides the perfect forum for business or social visitors to enjoy all that the area has to offer. Business users particularly enjoy its peaceful location and its proximity to the city Universities and teaching hospitals which has resulted in excellent partnerships with both and with other city initiatives such as Sheffield International Venues (SIV).
“A clear strategy of steady and sensible investment was agreed by Craig and his business partners when the hotel was purchased to make our customer experience a different and enjoyable one,” commented Katey. “The entire management team has been together since 2002, quite unusual in our industry, and it is this clear and common vision that has ensured our goals and dreams have been systematically achieved with such success. The Rutland is popular and well loved again, and we are very proud of our stylish hotel, exemplary service and good old fashioned Yorkshire hospitality.”
Already, all of the 63 bedrooms have been completely refurbished in the hotel’s signature style. A former car park is now an oasis in the heart of the city offering guests the opportunity to relax in beautifully landscaped surroundings. Three conference and banqueting rooms have been created, along with a remodeled bar and restaurant, to allow groups of any size to enjoy the hotel and the reception is, quite simply, unrecognisable. Further investment is planned during 2011, ensuring the hotel stays at the very pinnacle of hospitality in the region.
The hotel team celebrated receiving four stars with a staff party and Oscar style awards ceremony awarding the star team members who were highlighted by the inspector with Oscars! Craig Dowie was proud to present the awards to Adam Knowles (restaurant and bar) Kara McLean (restaurant), Marie Panks (restaurant) and Joelle Sellars (reception), and commented “These team members showed to the inspector not only excellent customer service but a smiling friendly face which we are proud to associated with at the hotel”.
